Unlock Motorola V3 RAZR and go to the Moon!
Lot’s of forum talks, lot’s of articles on Motorola internals, but none seemed to work 100%, and rather worked 97%. There was still this 3% that kept Motorola V3 RAZR owners from unlocking the phone… Here are tested, and proved to complete all 100%, steps that will let you unlock your Moty.
First, let’s get ready. All the tools that you can download below are MS Windows based (if you are using different OS, like Mac or, like me - Ubuntu, you can install MS Windows in a virtual box).
Ok, so assuming you are using MS Windows, these are the tools you will need to use:
- “p2k drivers 2.9” - This is a set of drivers that will enable your PC/Laptop and RAZR V3 to communicate.
- “scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2” - this is the tool written by scotty2 which downgrades your phone’s bootloader from (8.26, 8.23, 7.E0) to 7.D0, which is needed for the next tool to unlock it.
- “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37” - this is an actual “unlocker” tool.
- MiniUSB to USB cable
in order to connect your RAZR V3 to PC/Laptop.
Now the first thing first…
Step 1. Download the tools above, unpack them (unrar, unzip - here is a good tool for that tugzip)
Step 2. Plug in your phone to the computer using (#4) miniUSB to USB cable and install the drivers. Windows will ask you to install the drivers once the phone is plugged in, so just point it to the right directory where you unpacked them
Step 3. Turn off your phone
Step 4. Press and hold two buttons the star (*) and the pound (#) and while holding press the power button - this will bring you to something that Motorola people call “the flash screen”. On the top of the screen you will see something like this:
Boot Loader
08.26
SW Version:
R374_G_0E.41.C
3R_0
Ok to Program
USB
Transfer ModeStep 5. Now you will need to run a scotty2’s tool to downgrade the Boot Loader (in this case) from 08.26 to 07.D0. For this (unpack the scotty’s zip and) run “downgrader.exe”. Follow the instructions and the output of the program should look similar to:
Waiting for phone... Found! Getting phone interface information... Registry Interface #: 3 Interface Description: Motorola Flash Interface Interface LocInfo: S Flash Neptune LTE Opening phone for communication... Success! Getting software version… R374_G_0E.41.C3R_B, Flex: GSMV3VCRGR01NA120 Getting bootloader version… 08.26 Getting flash mode… SFLASH (Normal) Sending ramldr… Success. If you have problems on the step “Waiting for driver to disconnect” (it supposed to auto restart after this step), after the phone turned itself off, just turn it on again as it described in step 3 (Press and hold * and #, then while holding press the power button) At this point you should see that your Boot Loader has changed:
Boot Loader 07.DO SW Version: …
Step 6. Now it is time to run the “p2k_easy_tool_v37″ unlocking tool. Run “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37.exe”,
- 6.1 Go to “Locks” tab
- 6.2 Choose your phone model (V3 RAZR) from the “Phone Model” drop down
- 6.3 Check “Unlock SP”
- 6.4 Click on “Do Selected Jobs” button
And follow the instructions. Here is the snapshot of successful result:
Step 7. That should complete your journey, and Moty V3 RAZR should be good to go! Now you can take it to the Moon - it’ll work just fine!

Tried this and it didn’t work for me. I had already installed the drivers off the Motorola site and downgraded the bootloader so didn’t need to do those steps.
Fails at the point where it brings up a dialog telling you to remove the cable from the phone, power on without the cable (doesn’t state here whether it should be restarted in normal mode or that funky # and * combination), wait until phone powers on, plug cable back in, wait for windows to detect and click on ok.
Upon clicking OK I get the following errors:
Connecting to phone …
ERROR: Could not connect
ERROR: Connect error

Hey Nevyn,
It seems like a driver problem. I had the same issue and I solved it by re-installing the drivers and repeating this step. Just one USB driver is not enough - there are 2 or 3 more things that need to be picked up by Windows. The most important piece is one of the “motorola interfaces”, which enables “p2k_easy_tool_v37″ to see (and communicate with) the phone.
You may have to re-install the driver, so Windows will again pick up the above interface. It’s not Ubuntu, it needs lots of repetitions
Good luck!

Worked for me 100% - thank you for the soft!
I had a couple of glitches, but I agree with Toly, it is all about (re)installing drivers and interfaces - that is a hack after all. Don’t think you’ll get motorola all happily supporting it
Again, big thanks - was looking online for 2 hours before found this. Big help!

Is someone able to provide a list of the devices it installs drivers for? So far I’ve got one for the flash interface, and one for a USB modem. Windows doesn’t seem to pick anything else up.
May 4th, 2007 at 2:21:07
Finally managed to sort it out. The drivers appeared to be all installed but just weren’t behaving themselves. The computer wasn’t detecting all the interfaces. Enter Motophoenix. I was starting to think that perhaps this phone was simple unlockable so decided to run a piece of proprietary software called Motophoenix.
It allows a free download to test whether the software will work with your phone. So I downloaded it and ran it. It has an option called “Check Unlock Possibility”. Start this and it starts scanning interfaces. First though open up device manager and you should have three items appearing under “motorola devices”. Once you have these appearing, click on the abort button on MotoPhoenix and then carry on - when you’re asked to power back up, run MotoPhoenix again and wait for the devices to show up, hit abort, and then go back to the p2k easy tool and click okay.
May 4th, 2007 at 10:22:09
So what does this allow me to do. I am new to computers and phones. What am I able to do now with this programs?
May 7th, 2007 at 16:00:33
Hey Jim,
Most of GSM phones in US come locked to certain company - meaning that if today you have Cingular, for example, and tomorrow you would like to get T-Mobile, you would NOT be able to simply switch SIM cards from AT&T to T-Mobile, and make it work, because your phone is LOCKed to Cingular
That also creates a problem for traveling. If you go outside US, let’s say to Spain, and would like to buy a SIM card in Spain to use with your phone, you will NOT be able to do that, because your phone is LOCKed to US’s Cingular
Therefore I took time to go over the process of unlocking the phone (Motorola V3 RAZR, in this case), and shared my luck with everybody else, so they do not have to struggle.

Hi,
I followed your steps and they worked great!!!
I found the driver for the v3razr at
http://www.driverguide.com
Its real important you have the driver installed first before you start everything.
I have searched everywhere how to unlock this phone and this has been reliable 100% all you have to is follow the directions
I unlocked my RazrV3 from Cingular and now can use the phone for my T-Mobile.
Thanks again

Hi can you please write back on this?..
I followed each step perfectly and got to the end of step 5 where it had done everything according to your log. But when i try to go into the flash screen again it stays at a light brown color and doesn’t show text, also when i did this windows said that it had malfunctioned. I can still power up into the phone though. Also, i can’t open up P2K_Easy_Tool_v37.exe because it can’t load winscard.dll.
Please help.

OK, I’m trying to unlock my Razr. I started with a different, more complicated method. I flashed bootloader 7.D0 (succesfully) but now, when I try to go into bootloader mode, it won’t do it. Just turns back off. I can turn the phone on normally, but not in bootloader mode. I’ve tried putting 8.26 back on there (which loads successfully) but then, it still won’t go into bootloader mode. Help? Please?
August 15th, 2007 at 10:25:14
OK, nevermind…I made an important discovery. That even though the phone doesn’t seem to be in bootloader mode (the buttons light up for 2 seconds and then go out, screen is blank) it still is and you can run unlocker programs at that stage.
August 15th, 2007 at 16:00:42
good until communicating with phone then it acts uo maybe it doesnt work for all models of razr ex razr V3r V3xx etc dont knoe i guess thess phones require test point unlocking

Tried to load the “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37″ file and my computer detected a virus warning. Since a lot of user have tried it, I don’t believe there is a virus. I selected the “ignor” option, but my system would not let me run it.
I also have the OA.51 loader. I tried to nlock it using another method from another site, but it gave me a “Critical Error 84″

Has anyone unlocked V3i using this method? Has anyone downgraded OA.52 bootloader using cotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2″ and successfully unlocked a V3i model?
Thanks

Presto-Changeo!
Worked great.
After downgrading to 07.D0, it seemed that the phone would not boot into the flash screen. No display. But then I noticed VERY faintly it showed 07.D0. The backlight wasn’t coming on for some reason.
Continued with the rest of the procedure. I had to restart the phone several times during p2k_easy_tool_v37 process, as instructed by the program. Drivers had to be loaded during this process. Eventually it successfully completed.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Sebastian what you need is a newer version of p2k easy tools, or to downgrade to bootloader 07D0.
You can donload p2k easy tools v4.1 here:
http://www.unlockeasy.net/Motorola/Software/P2K_Easy_Tool_v41_FREE.zip
Does any one know how to downgrade a bootloader version 9000?
Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

I JUST USED YOUR SSOFTWARE
WELL DONE
YOU JUST SAVED ME THE £15 THAT I WAS QUOTED TO UNLOCK MY V3
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!
October 28th, 2007 at 22:02:20
I never thought this would work. I was very skeptical.
Man oh man. Was I ever wrong.
For the very last step you need to power it on in regular mode.
Also, right click on the drivers in XP and select install on all of them.
This should take care of any driver issues.
If it still doesn’t work. Try it over and over again. It’s really a timing issue.
I clicked OK right before it went to the main menu… And it worked like a charm.
PDAWG.
October 28th, 2007 at 23:29:11
I had the same problem reported by Nevyn (read above). His recommendation using MotoPhoenix WORKED!!!! yippee. (bowing down).
MotoPhoenix appears to actually load the 3 USB interfaces (drivers) for Razr V3 when you click “check for unlocking”. You monitor when that happens by having the device driver view up - hitting “Abort” in Motophoenix at that point will still ensure that “P2k Easy Tool V3.7″ will be able to talk to the phone.
October 28th, 2007 at 23:34:58
…addendum:
After downgrading to bootloader 7.D0 you can also get your computer to recognise your Razr V3 using the “motorola driver installer 2.8″ in “clean and reinstall mode”.

My Sony laptop wouldn’t recognize the phone so I had to use my Dell PC (both are kind of old). It took awhile to get the phone in - I had to keep restarting the computer.
Everything worked fine, just as you said. Thank you.
BTW I am a 67 year old woman who shouldn’t be able to do this stuff.

I went through phases 1-5 succesfully, but:
- i cannot get it to open the 07D0-boot screen
-windows doesn’t recognize the phone anymore at all, so i can’t do anything through my laptop anymore.
More people seem to have the same problem. Is there anybody out there who found a solution to this?
My V3 is locked to Cingular US.
Thanks for help!
January 12th, 2008 at 15:54:07
After i posted my message, i started fiddling around a little bit. Found: windows didn’t locate the drivers correctly & i had to ‘help’ it 3 times to do it properly. Went through ‘control panel’ to listing of hardware connected, then clicked on motorola device and reinstalled the drivers over and over until windows indicated ‘the {motorola} device is working properly. Eventually the unlocking procedure started - I had to disconnect it and power it up 2 times, but now I’m using my phone with a Canadian carrier!
Thanks for your instructions (all of you that helped me figuring out, considering it didn’t work rightaway - i had some scary moments!)
January 15th, 2008 at 14:03:22

PDS info: PDS_4007

Now a screen comes up saying to unplug the phone, power it up, plug it back in, let USB recognize it (doesn’t seem to be), click OK on screen to carry on. Then…

Does anyone know the way around?
Thanks and all the best!

Bang on! Saw this after crawling through other sites which had either sketchy or partial instructions. I too had to reload the motorola drivers several times throughout. After downgrading the Boot Loader, was not able to see the new version on the flash screen (keys would light up but nothing on the screen). But my pc recognized the phone when I plugged it in to complete the final unlock step.
Thanks!

Has anyone found a solution to this yet:
I have the exact same problem as vtec92civic
At the end of Step 5 it says:
“Bootloader is now 7.D0, have fun modding!”
all seems to be going as planned.
but when I turn it back on (Step 6)but when I turn the phone back on holding the # and *, the keypad lights up for 1 sec and stops and nothing happens, no longer able to get into “the flash screen”
thanks, Michael echofilmlycos.com
vtec92civic Says:
July 29th, 2007 at 5:40:41
followed all the steps. Everything seems ok accept for the fact that after the bootloader to 7.0 holding the # & * while trying to power up the phone does nothing but light up the keypad. I can turn the phone on regularly, but i cant use the unlocking tool if i cant get back to the bootloader screen, correct? Someone please help.

January 27th, 2008 at 4:30:25
This behaviour occurs to some phones, don’t bother about it, if you press #* on the boot it will be in the boot loader menu although no video are posted to the screen, so power up your phone with this keys pressed and then make p2k easy tools unlock.

“I just called ATT and they will provide the code within 10 days. They indicated that they need to contact the manufacturer and when they get the code they will give it to me free of charge”
That’s a lie. They do not contact Motorola, most likely another department or the people that sp lock these phones for them.
Those that are having problems should reinstall all the drivers, maybe try on a different pc and sometimes for firmware to upload into the phone you need to repeat several times. You can not go back to your old firmware because you need to have a copy of it, once you overwrite it with the downgraded version, unless you can get your hands on the new firmware there is no way to go back. I think if you can get the code from the service provider, you are better off since it preserves all you software itunes etc… (unless you want to debrand your phone to OEM) It is also better to get the code because you have the most up to date firmware. If you still want to remove the lock, i’d consider the amount of your time it takes to go through all these steps run into the possibility that you can not figure out what you are doing wrong and are getting an error vs paying somebody $20 who has done this many times.
If you are willing to experiment and really want to learn then these instructions look great and i thank the original poster for proviing this info and software links.
February 9th, 2008 at 21:32:42
Worked great for me too, my V3 is from Movistar, Peru. One question though, after unlocking the phone, would it be better to upgrade the bootloader to the latest version again? I believe that P2K Easy Tool allows to do so in the Repair tab, the “Write Bootloader” option. I guess the file to use would be the 826ramldr.bin that came in the downgrader zip? What is the disadvantage (if any) to have an older bootloader version?
Many many thanks for such great piece of software!

I have a question. I did everything mentioned above. NOW, here lies my question. I did everything, and everything came out like it’s written and pictured, on this page; but if I power on my phone now, it just takes a simple tap of the power button. Not the holding down for 2 seconds like it used to, and I have no bootloader logo, if i press * and # at the same time. After holding down * and # it won’t power up, UNLESS, I “just tap the power button, by itself”. Does this mean I need to flash it, orrrr is it ready to be used for Cingular and other providers? Do I need to do some playing with the tools provided? Am I good to go, or do I need flashes? Someone please, let me know. Thanks Sooooo much.

Hello, i tried to follow all the steps and when i’m trying to unlock the phone i get the
Powering down…
Connecting to phone …
ERROR: Could not connect
ERROR: Connect error
message in p2k easy tool, i thought, allright ít didn’t work so i can give the mobile back to the owner. But it seems broken, when i’m putting it on, i automatically get the:
Boot loader
07.D0
SW version:
R374_G_0E.42.1
0R
MEM_MAP blank
Service Req’d
message, when im pulling the battery out of it and replace it, i still get the message, and my phone won’t start up normally like it should be…
anyone knows what to do?

My phone unlocked (taking it from T-Mobile to ATT/Cingular); the only thing is the web functions still think it’s T-Mobile. I’ve registered ATT in the Network section, but the Menu still lists T-Zone and I can’t even get a url to work. Can you help me? Thanks a bunch!

When u finish with the P2K_Easy_Tool_v37 and u see the ADR info the it says powering down and a window appears that says to power the phone up again and wait until it is detected by windows. Before u click OK on that window do the following: got to control panel and click “add hardware” follow the procedure and when it come to ask for driver choose to select your hardware from list. Navigate down until u see Motorola USB modem.Select it and finish the process. Now u can click OK on the P2K_Easy_Tool_v37 window to unlock the phone. At the end u will see unlock OK powering down.By this way u force windows to reload the driver. I have completed the procedure with the P2K_Easy_Tool_v37 twice succesfully but when I insert my 3 sim card I see the message “check sim”.I realise that the phone is stil locked although the P2K_Easy_Tool_v37 says unlock OK.Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

I want to unlock my Motorola V3 RAZAR with Telstra in Australia. Can it be done with the 7 steps?
What is the worst it can happen? eg. damage the phone? damage the existing sim card? The phone or sim card un-usable?

Followed all the steps, thought I was on the right track. Got to the point of using the P2K Easy Tool v3.7. Set it up like suggested and hit the “do selected jobs”. Stated:
Connecting to phone
Connected to “Motorola Flash”
Connected OK
Bootloader version 0000
Sending loader to phone…
Loader sent OK
Flash ID 890B1088
Unlocking…
Unlocked OK
Powering down…
Something didn’t happen correctly? Now I’m left with a phone that shows a blank screen, keypad lights up but that is it! What went wrong and how can I correct it?

I’ve just unlocked my V3 from COMCEL in Colombia successfuly. I only faced two issues:
1.- While downgrading the bootloader (Step 4) my V3 won’t restart when the program sent the restarting command, so I had to turn it on manually, pressing and holding (*) and (#). Once the phone was on again, the program resumed the process.
2.- While running step 6, windows couldn’t find the drivers for each of the phone’s devices, so the Windows new hardware wizard showed up, and the “p2k_easy_tool_v37″ failed. I had to follow the Windows installation wizard to install the correct drivers (”p2k drivers 2.9″), and retry the tool’s process. I did it several times until all drivers were installed and the process sucessfuly unlocked my phone.

Thank you so much for this software. Ever since I used it, it worked on the first try and I was able to unlock the phone as well as reset my security code because the person I bought my razor phone couldn’t remember what it was.
